Progress Report: Kings Of Convenience
NAME: Kings of Convenience Things are coming full circle for Kings Of Convenience, at least as album titles go. "We have thought about Quiet IS The New Loud, says Erlend Øye of their upcoming third studio album. "But the record company might object to that." Quiet Is The New Loud -- the same title minus a capital letter -- was the name of Kings of Convenience's 2001 debut album. It's been five years since their last LP, 2004's Riot On An Empty Street, so a confusing title isn't the biggest concern, especially when most assumed the duo had stopped working together. New M.I.A. (Clothing Advertisement Dressed As A) Video - "Shells"
Continuing being totally retired, Maya's got a new video today. The first title card to splash across the screen credits "Film & Clothes" to M.I.A. -- which means it's essentially a spot for her seizure-baiting fashion line. But she remains of full belly, which means you won't see her wearing any of it. In fact you won't see her at all (she's retired, remember). Instead the vid incorporates the stills and models you'll recognize from that time you were shopping for tees, set to the sped up version of "Shells," a track that first appeared on her October-released EP How Many Votes Fix Mix, later bundled into the Kala deluxe edition. Imagine what it would be like if she was actually working these days. New Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Video - "Everything With You"
Onetime BTW the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are about to release their self-titled full-length debut on Slumberland. It's the perfect place for their jangly, noisy late '80s/early '90s-style indie pop. Yes, they like the Pastels, Black Tambourine, etc. For the Art Boonparn-directed clip for "Everything With You," which shows up on the album and as a 7", the New York quartet's represented by keyboardist/vocalist Peggy and her best friend, who have pillow fights, share gum (and sodas), and otherwise wander a gray-day city. MGMT Bring Thanksgiving To Paris
Always up for making a/the scene, MGMT fully indulged their Thanksgiving performance of Oracular's spectacular "Kids" with some seasonal showmanship in this clip from French variety show Le Grand Journal. While I'm sure Parisians find ways to give thanks on a daily basis, they don't have a Thanksgiving Day with America's associated lore per se. So welcome our voweless cultural ambassadors, teaching the French about that first cold, hard winter and the generosity of a doomed native civilization by dressing as hipster pilgrims with a table of feasters in front, a Segway rider in back, and flanked by a swath of sexy, pug-toting Native Americans on one side with an artist capturing all the elements of the supper on the other. History is the best. Fleet Foxes Harmonize In Nigel Godrich's BasementWe took you deep into NG's basement to watch Andrew Bird perform "Sectionate City." Keeping with the animal theme, Fleet Foxes recently scurried underground to bring him "Blue Ridge Mountains." Stereogum x Amazon MP3 Friendly Deals #4: Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam
Here's the next installment in a series that brings you classic indie rock albums at hugely discounted prices. Every week, Amazon.com is letting us select one album from its MP3 store to go on super sale (up to 75% off normal prices). Hopefully you'll be able to add these must-own LPs to your library without breaking your budget. Today's deal: Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam. Animal Collective's eighth (seven studio, one live) album Strawberry Jam is the most recent title in our series of Amazon selections. That said, a lot has happened -- post-Strawberry jams, Water Curses, the impending Merriweather Post Pavilion, apologies from Grizzly Bear -- since we first heard "Peacebone" thru "Derek." When going back through A.C.'s output, it's difficult labeling a true "best album" because they've managed to shape-shift for so long. You could see Sung Tongs as the crossover, but Strawberry Jam is where they found a way to deepen their sound, making it more accessible (a la Panda Bear's Person Pitch), but just as adventurous as their earlier, more free-form work. For starters, the nine songs' food, firework, Al Green, and magi-centered lyrics -- don't forget that mildewed rice -- are easier to parse than past chirps and chants, the syllables even less stuttered than those on the lovely Feels. It also goes down easiest from start to finish. New George Michael - "December Song (I Dreamed Of Christmas)"
This isn't another "Last Christmas," but it is another downcast George Michael sung Christmas song. It's his first since the 1984 Wham! tune. NME reports that it'll be available for a free download at GM's site (and other non-George Michael digital sites) on Christmas Day. They also note it was recorded for Eli Stone, on which Michael has a recurring role, so expect dramatic visual happenings, too. You really don't need to know any of that, though, to hear the melody that saved George on those less than silent nights. New Lily Allen - "The Fear"
Lately Lily's been making news more for music than bloggerrhea: collabing with Kaiser Chiefs, turning out bits from her forthcoming It's Not Me, It's You, etc. As she's said, Lil's "trying to do this album with integrity, and I want you all to know that it has been thought about by me, not just some thrown together last minute industry bullshizz." To wit, "The Fear" is a retitled and touched up version of the synthy demo we heard in April, then titled "I Don't Know." As we said then, "gone is the party bounce, the ska doobies, and syncopated cadences that marked her breakthrough material," but this new wave of Lily material's catchy, and subversively clever as ever. New Bruce Springsteen Video - "My Lucky Day"
Bruce Springsteen's been "Working On A Dream" and working on promoting his new album of the same name. In addition to the title track, we've heard both bonuses, "A Night With The Jersey Devil" and "The Wrestler." Now we have the video for "My Lucky Day," which shows up sans visuals as Working's second track, right after "Outlaw Pete." Also, I'm guessing the above is the album art, since it showed up mysteriously on Bruce's MySpace. So if you were curious about that, well it's your lucky day. New Jay-Z (Featuring Santogold) - "Brooklyn (Go Hard)"
That B.I.G. biopic Notorious will have an OST likely dominated by Biggie Smalls cuts, especially since his estate is so creepily enamored with the project, but here's at least one track for the collection from some of Brooklyn's other residents. The Jay-Z fight song, titled "Brooklyn (We Go Hard)" (or less the "We" depending on which corner of Google you ask) gets its title from the intro line to Santogold's "Shove It," which is sampled here and surrounded by some cavernous and dramatic, "Jesus Walks"-style Kanye production. Jigga starts the fight song with taunts to "test my Stuy" in a Carribean patois, big ups Bigs throughout, and BK-transplant (and recent Kanye tourmate) Santi adds chants to the hook, represents Bed-Stuy in the last verse. Listen up: New A Camp - "Stronger Than Jesus" & Colonia Album Art
Cardigan Nina Persson is teaming up with husband (and Shudder To Thinker) Nathan Larson and fellow Swede Niklas Frisk for the second A Camp album Colonia, the followup to 2001's eponymous debut. On the album they're joined by ex-Dambuilder and late-period GVB drummer Kevin March, Joan Wasser (aka Joan As Police Woman), Nicolai Dunger, and James Iha. You can take a listen to the first single "Stronger Than Jesus" at the Reveal Records site. And, you can look at Nina's head here: Rivers Cuomo Preps Rarities, Carols, Aly & AJ Collab
The seemingly evergreen slate of Rivers projects got a re-up recently when Billboard sat with Mr. Cuomo to talk shop. First up, for Weezer fans, there's the tentatively titled Odds And Ends collection which will be just that: a selection of "great songs" spanning the band's career which "for some reason ... didn't make the final cut for [a] record." In addition, iPhoners will find six Weezer-covered Xmas carols ("they're the classics") in the game Tap Tap Revenge. Also the Red Album campaign will push into '09, with a likely tour supporting Oasis and a Spike Jonze-directed video for "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived." Finally, Rivers is collaborating on a track with teen duo Aly & AJ. That should be a fun video. If all of that is too far away, here's Rivers making a gift of himself to you. 'Tis the season. [Rivers pic from Weezer @ MSG 9/24/08] The Muslims Change Their NameIt's official, San Diego BTW the Muslims have changed their name to the Soft Pack. Take a trek to their new MySpace and decide if they mean this (people do compare them to the Strokes) or plain ol' Cigarettes. New Low Video - "Santa's Coming Over"
It's clearly the season for a lot of Christmas (and other holiday) songs, so brace yourself. Low's "Santa's Coming Over" gets us started on a creepier note -- the track's title and main sentiment sounds more like a warning than most Santa songs, which is reflected by (and refracted onto) the faces of the various cherubic kids and post-kids in this video. The song appears on a 7" of the same name. Lock your chimney. More Recent Articles |

I think the question is: how old is the granddaughter, and does she have boobs yet? It's borderline I think...but either way, whoever produced this thing should have noticed and done something about it. |

Creator of Emmy Award-winning TV show “30 Rock” Tina Fey has kept hush about the dramatic story behind the faint scar that is on the left side of her face. Miss Fey, 38, says, “It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it.” Finally opening up, Fey tells that when she was 5-years-old, she was playing in the front yard of her Upper Darby, Pennsylvania home when a stranger approached and cut her cheek. “She just thought somebody marked her with a pen, “ said her husband, Jeff Richmond. Miley Cyrus: Photographer in the Making
Although Miley Cyrus’s photo shoot in Vanity Fair was extremely controversial, it doesn’t have the young star feeling any kind of regret. She even felt that the photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz inspired her to want to be a photographer. “Everyone outside of America liked it a little bit more because that’s more like the style, but the States are really conservative,” Cyrus told the UK’s Daily Record. Maybe Miley Cyrus Will Leave Our Lives
Miley Cyrus might leave us to pursue photograhy. Maybe she wants to take crotch shots of her little model boyfriend, who really isn’t as hot as eveyronemakes him seem. He looks sort of like a pretty boy and I’m personally not enthused by that sort of bullshit. A man is supposed to have a dominant appeal rather than a feminine pansy look. Anyways, Miley might drop the slut act, and start learning about photography and London. What is it with her and London? Just move there already stupid bitch, we don’t want you here. Where's The Love?
The events which have occurred in the past week has made me extremely disgusted towards mankind. How can we, being human- having souls and hearts murder other human beings in the masses? I thought that the war that the US is fighting in would prevent such devastation from happening. The attack on Mumbai has left India shaken and has demeaned of confidence that its leaders can keep them safe and revive an economy. 195 people have been murdered and I have close friends who were actually at the Taj and escaped from this horrible terrorist attack. Taken from bloomberg: Chidambaram, 63, who had been finance minister for the government's entire 4 1/2-year term, said Nov. 28 the economy will "overcome" the impact of the shootings and blasts in the nation's business capital. Even as a global recession spreads, he predicted India's growth would rebound to 9 percent from as low as 7 percent this year. Honestly, I think that India will rise above this, but India will not back down and turn the other cheek. These attacks have been going on for too long. Many people are pointing at the Pakistanis. But I highly doubt that they ordered these attacks. It is unfortunate that the terrorists were Muslim, because now there will be more animosity towards Muslims. I don’t even know what else to write, this is absolutely disgusting. And all we can do is pray for these people. We shouldn’t end negotiations with India either. We shouldn’t be afraid. Fear is what the terrorists want to inject into our minds- let’s not give them the satisfaction that we are afraid. Here is what I am listening to. World AIDS Day. Fight HIV and AIDS
It’s Dec.1. 2008. Today is World AIDS day. You should all take the time to visit http://www.worldvision.org/content.nsf/getinvolved/hope-home and try to get involved with fighting HIV and AIDS. On Thursday, my father came home to announce that the Black Friday line outside of our local Best Buy was already in full force. ON THANKSGIVING DAY. He reported that there were probably 20 or so people sitting in lawn chairs, awaiting that glorious moment when, before dawn, the electronic doors would open to reveal a handful of televisions and laptops marked down to almost unheard of prices. We laughed at the insanity of others, and continued about with our pre-turkey self-basting rituals. Many hours later, driving home from a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' friends home at around 11 PM, we had a great idea: Let's drive by Best Buy and see just how many maniacs were lined up now. So, like a Boyz in the Hood drive-by, we shut the lights off of our aging ex-cruise-ship Lincoln Town Car, and did the "slow roll." The line was MADNESS. At least 200 people sitting either on the concrete or in rickety beach chairs, arms folded, pissed, at roughly T minus 6 hours until bargain mayhem. A few pre-planners even had tents. This was serious business. My Dad stopped the car near the front door, and I rolled down my window to get a better look. A couple of people shot us dirty looks. "Hi!" I beamed. No response. "How long have you guys been waiting?" Fire eyeballs shot out of angry slits. It was... awkward. They were, strangely, in not so amazing moods. So, without further annoyance, I took my camera out of bag to snap a photo of these jerk-offs. And, like a starlet who automatically flashes a smile with each passing flashbulb, a group of about 4 campers, without hesitation, gave me the middle finger. I bring you that picture here... unedited (Note: The 4 extremely unattractive people directly in front of us who shot us the finger were sadly, not captured.):

Before we go on, please ask yourself the following questions: 1. Do you like older, foreign women? 2. Do you sleep on a bed made of emeralds, rhino spines and baby panda bones? 3. Does your name sound suspiciously fake/
